Black in Period Films

This is the first gif that I have made myself and I am so excited about the possibilities.  I gif'd this image because it encapsulates the beautiful costumes and romantic air that are a staple in many period films. To have these qualities applied to a black character is such a rare occurrence. How many chances do we get to see Black women in beautiful period correct bonnets with parasols in the cinematic landscape? Not often. But that's a post for another time.

Haven't posted recently because I've been busy with life. Excuses ... excuse ... I know and I'm sorry. But I'm back. I got my hands on the Daughters of the Dust DVD (thanks to my lovely dad!). I'm going to be digging deeper into this film. It is a work of art that is study of so many parts of Black American culture. My discussion will be up later. :)

This is a mini series based on the 1993 novel of the same name by Janice Woods Windle . It runs at minutes long and is broken into 2 parts. I decided to talk about the series by character. There are four black characters in True Women. All are slaves.  There's Josiah , Tildy , Ed Tom , and Martha .  Overall I think their stories are well told, considering the fact that they aren't main characters.  Besides the 4 main characters that happen to be black. Blacks are seen throughout the entire film.  I would recommend this series especially the parts with the character Georgia (played by Angelina Jolie). I don't want to ruin the plot but suffice it to say the complexities of her life make for a very interesting story.  Here is the trailer:

I started watching Harlem Nights (1998) but I just wasn't feeling it. Was going to review it but since I didn't finish it that would make no sense. However, I plan on uploading another review soon. I know as of now I'm a failure but I promise I'll get back into the swing of things.

I haven't gotten any comments yet but, I never even expected to get 50 views so I'm totally excited and happy about this!! Thanks to however you viewers are!!
