CYRANO | Official Trailer

Image
Here is the trailer for musical Cyrano. Summary: Cyrano de Bergerac dazzles everyone with his ferocious wordplay and brilliant swordplay. However, he's convinced his appearance renders him unworthy of the affections of the luminous Roxanne, a devoted friend who's in love with someone else (Kelvin Harrison Jr. as Christian de Neuvillette). Cyrano is a classic that has been adapted numerous times and in many different ways. I look forward to this adaption because Joe Wright is directing the film. Joe Wright directed Atonement (2007), Pride and Prejudice (2005), and Anna Karenina (2012) which are all period films that I've seen and enjoyed; specifically Atonement and Pride and Prejudice. I am also interested in this adaption of the Cyrano story because the casting of Peter Dinklage and Kelvin Harrison Jr. adds additional layers to the story.  The cast includes Peter Dinklage, Haley Bennett, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Bashir Salahuddin, and Ben Mendelsohn. In theaters this December

Those riding with him in this assured, righteously new school Western include his former love Stagecoach Mary (Zazie Beetz), his right and left hand men — hot-tempered Bill Pickett (Edi Gathegi) and fast drawing Jim Beckwourth (R.J. Cyler)—and a surprising adversary-turned-ally.  Rufus Buck has his own fearsome crew, including “Treacherous” Trudy Smith (Regina King) and Cherokee Bill (LaKeith Stanfield), and they are not a group that knows how to lose.  Directed by Jeymes Samuel, written by Samuel and Boaz Yakin, produced by Shawn Carter, James Lassiter, Lawrence Bender and Jeymes Samuel, and featuring a red hot soundtrack and a stunning all-star cast, including Jonathan Majors, Zazie Beetz, Delroy Lindo, L

Behind The Scenes: Nikki Amuka-Bird Spotted Filming Persuasion with co-star Dakota Johnson

Image
There has been a lot of talk amongst the Jane Austen fandom about the latest adaption of Jane Austen's 1817 novel Persuasion. The Netflix adaption is being described as a "modern, witty" retelling of the Jane Austen classic Persuasion. The latest bit of news from the Persuasion set features actress Nikki Amuka-Bird. Although her role hasn't yet been disclosed, many believe she will be playing the character Lady Russell. Dakota Johnson is leading the film as Anne Elliot.  Nikki Amuka-Bird can be seen wearing a purple pelisse with a velvet beret light draped across her beautiful natural hair. Lady Russell is Anne's godmother and close friends with her late mother. The nice pelisse makes sense for the character as Lady Russel is the wealthy widow of a titled gentleman. Although Lady Russell does make some iffy choices (in the book) and I am eager to see if Nikki Amuka-Bird is actually playing her.

The Underground Railroad | Official Trailer

Image
“Nothing was given, all was earned. Hold on to what belongs to you.” From Academy Award® winner Barry Jenkins and based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Colson Whitehead comes the Amazon Original limited series “The Underground Railroad”. The Underground Railroad is a historical fiction novel by American author Colson Whitehead published by Doubleday in 2016. The alternate history novel tells the story of Cora and Caesar, two slaves in the southeastern United States during the 19th century, who make a bid for freedom from their Georgia plantation by following the Underground Railroad, which the novel depicts as primarily a rail transport system in addition to a series of safe houses and secret routes. I am really looking forward to this series. I read the book and enjoyed the unique concept and I plan on doing a podcast recap of the series. I want to breakdown the similarities and  differences  between the novel and series. I had so many thoughts about the novel so I'm sure

Tyler Perry's Madea Origin TV Series ‘Mabel’ In Works At Showtime

Image
Mabel "Madea" Earlene Simmons a character created and played by Tyler Perry is getting her own origin story on Showtime.  The series idea for a Madea origin story was created by Tyler Perry and Tim Palen. The series, titled Mabel is being developed by Showtime. Mabel has received a multiple-script order and will be written by JaNeika James and JaSheika James. The pair have been staff writers and supervising producers on Empire. Mabel will follow Madea as a 20-something black woman 1972’s Atlanta, Georgia. The series title Mabel comes for Madea's real name Mabel Simmons.   Admittedly, I am a bit weary of how this series could turn out. However, there is a bigger part of me that wants to see how Madea's life is handled. We know quite a bit about Madea. According to the internet Madea was born in Greensburg, Louisiana on June 26, 1935. Madea is known for her many outrageous claims throughout her various stage, film, and television appearances. One such claim being that

The series will be rooted in actual events chronicling “Shaka’s unlikely rise to power, uniting multiple tribes across vast stretches of Africa in the early 19th century to transform his power into legend, on par with history’s most seminal figures”.      Fuqua said, “This project offers a gateway to our past that is so critical to our global history and yet so often marginalized,” he added, “Through “Shaka: King of the Zulu Nation,” we hope to bring this saga to life, all the tears, sweat and blood, all the joy and sorrow, all

Image
Series Summary : In the last years of Victoria’s reign, London is beset by the “Touched”: people — mostly women — who suddenly manifest abnormal abilities, some charming, some very disturbing. Among them are Amalia True (Laura Donnelly), a mysterious, quick-fisted widow, and Penance Adair (Ann Skelly), a brilliant young inventor. They are the champions of this new underclass, making a home for the Touched, while fighting the forces of… well, pretty much all the forces — to make room for those whom history as we know it has no place. There are four black actors who are credited on the IMDB page; three of them named and seen in the trailer. Rochelle Neil plays the role of Annie Carbey (aka Bonfire), a career criminal with the ability to control fire who came up rough and stayed that way. Raven Goodwin To Play Hattie McDaniel In Biopic ‘Behind the Smile’!!

Image
I think this is an amazing casting. Just see for yourself! Raven Goodwin has been chosen to play Hattie McDaniel, the legendary actress who was the first African American to ever win an Oscar; for her role as Mammy in 1939’s Gone With the Wind. The biopic will be called Behind the Smile. I think its an apt name because I have always loved Hattie McDaniel's smile. Additionally, I'm quite positive McDaniel had to hide a lot of her feelings behind her smile. Her acting career options were limited and she faced many injustices. But, she preserved and became a legend in the process. I look forward to seeing her story brought to screen.  Jami McCoy-Lankford of Hillionaire Productions and Global Genesis Group is producing the indie film. Regarding the casting of Raven Goodwin McCoy-Lankford said, “Raven Goodwin is such a phenomenal talent and a gift to this project. In our first meeting on Zoom, she already showed the kind of passion that is befitting such a complex and iconic charac
