Write It - William Grant Still





Today is February 11 2017 and on May 11, 1895 William Grant Still was born to two teachers in Woodville, Mississippi. William Grant Still became a composer of more than 150 works, including five symphonies and eight operas. Still became the first American composer to have an opera produced by the New York City Opera. Additionally, his first symphony is the most widely performed symphony composed by an American. His works have been performed internationally by the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, and the BBC Orchestra.
